Nevada Litfin: Racehorse Trainer

Nevada Litfin

Nevada Litfin, a multiple stakes winning trainer, first was introduced to racing when he was nine at Carlton County Fair in Barnum, Minn. At age 15,  Nevada started working for Kevin Danger at Canterbury Park. “And then one day I thought I could do it on my own,” Nevada said. He won his first race as a trainer in 2000.

Nevada currently has 22 horses at Canterbury and expects all of his 2-year-olds to do a great job. He won five races from nine starts to begin the meet.

“They are all doing great, but to separate one out from the others, I’d expect Super Charlie to be a little more impressive,” said Nevada. “I can’t say anything bad about any of them, they’ve all run good races so far.”

Throughout the years, training has taught Nevada multiple lessons but the biggest lesson it has taught him is how to be patient.

“When you have a full barn of 2-year-olds, it will teach you a lot of patience in a hurry,” he said. “But maybe that’s the best part about it, when you work with the babies and you get to watch them develop.”

The little amount of time Nevada and his wife Veronica aren’t at the racetrack, they spend with their two children. They also enjoy visiting their client’s farms and looking at their babies to find future race horses.
